Crossover testing

Set up some internal loops to test the software crossover setups. Currently crossing at 80 and 48000, pretty steep slopes. Running the test noise for a while also revealed that I'm getting some rare xruns which I need to deal with. Going to look into adjusting the PCI bus priorities (isn't cpu as its currently only consuming 20% at 2 steps under max).

Octave script used to generate the crossover fir filters - Note that Gentoo users need to emerge octave-forge in addition to octave in order for the script to work.

Headliner/dash

Today I got the headliner out and the dash taken apart. Got measurements of all the dash voids and made sure the HVAC controls were relocateable. Not sure what I'm doing next, but I've got all week to decide.
Found out the place I had do my alarm way back when did a really sloppy job of it. That was neat.

System as-is currently: 41 second boot time
After including software-suspend2: 24 seconds (3 for kernel selection)

Current Status

Right now, the computer is a mobile athlon 2400 running on a MSI KM4M-V running Gentoo linux. So far I've gotten dynamic speed switching working (required editing the k7-powernow module code to match the commonly used patch so it would run on my newer kernel), X, ALSA, and JACK working and producing sound on the appropriate channels. Now I'm futzing with crossover frequencies and EQ positioning/settings. Need to get it actually set up in the car in order to progress much more on it. Course, that requires getting some audio equipment into the car.

Speaker Rings

2000 Grand Prix's start with 5.25 speakers in the front door with tweeters in the sail panel.

The goal is to mount the 6.5 speakers in the stock location and then the tweeters on the A-pillar. First step for the 6.5s was to make a template from the speaker mounting ring:

We started with a ring and a half ring in order to angle the speaker upwards similiar to the factory setup. This required sanding the rings to provide a flush mounting surface:

In order to mount the larger ring over the 5.25 door hole we made two notched aluminum bars to mount the ring to:

This has turned out not to work so well and I think we are going to make a new mount with a greater angle on it that extends through the hole to make sealing the door easier.

So the first step for the sound deadening was to apply SecondSkin Spectrum to the trunk and floor of the car. Initially, the car started all nice and pretty and white:
